Learning is not compulsory... neither is survival.
.... W. Edwards Deming (1900 - 1993)
All company processes are touched in some way by employees. They can function as a a source of constant variation in products & processes. They can also as function as in-process inspectors, detecting and correcting product and process problems, protecting both internal and external customers.
How do you know if training is required? Will training fix your current business problems? RB Associates can help you understand:
With an understanding of the process capabilities required, and an inventory of employee capabilities, RB Associates can assist in developing and restructuring employees to meet business goals.
I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
... Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC)
From our experience, these are wise words. People learn best when taught in the following ways:
So when people practice what they are learning, especially on something of value to them, instead of example situations, they begin to acquire a true understanding of the subject and begin to develop proficiency. RB Associates has found that company training programs can fail to make any significant improvement to business performance. The cause can often be traced to the employees' inability to immediately apply what they have learned in their workplace. Or, efforts to use new skills or methods are hampered by managers, supervisors or co-workers who try to maintain "business as usual".
Employee development is more than just sending your staff to a course with good coffee and doughnuts. It's about people gaining new functional working skills and knowledge. RB Associates can help plan and implement employee development actions by participating as:

To improve the effectiveness of individual and larger scale training actions, RB Associates uses the LUTI and "First Use Project" training concepts first developed by Xerox.
Large training efforts require manpower to implement. Business processes cannot be changed unless managers and supervisors actively support new ways of working. RB Associates uses the LUTI process to waterfall training from the top down to lower levels, using client managers and supervisors and part of the training process. Managers are trained in the first wave, use their new skills to complete a "First Use" project which is inspected. They then assist in teaching and inspecting the work of their direct reports.
To ensure each employee's new skills and working knowledge are developed and retained, RB Associates' training is followed by a First Use Project. Here employees immediately use what they have learned in the training class, working on actual business problems. The project is inspected by the Instructor to check for understanding. Completing the project prepares employees to teach others.
